South China Sea: Vietnam
For centuries, Vietnam has been forced to concede power in the South China Sea to global powers. Now, the United States and China are throwing their weight around in the region. This is Vietnam’s chance to utilize its growing economic power to establish itself in the region and ensure the territorial integrity of rightfully Vietnamese waters. How Vietnam will effectively and diplomatically do so, however, is contentious and is yet to be seen.
*Note from the Director General: For the first time ever, we will have a Novice Crisis committee! This committee will have a slightly slower pace to allow our staff to help walk delegates through the inner workings of a crisis Model UN committee. Delegates should still prepare beforehand and understand the basic structure of committee and crisis notes. On your honor, you may only participate in this committee if you are a novice delegate. If a delegate has won an award and/or participated in more than three conferences before, we request they do not be placed in this committee. Failure to do this will be seen as a violation of VAMUN policies and may cause your school to be disqualified from awards. *
