The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) is a committee that closely examines human rights issues and humanitarian affairs that impact people all over the world. Two important areas of focus in this committee will be on the resource scarcity for refugees, who face a lack of living spaces and inhumane living conditions, as well as conflict mining. Conflict minerals often result in exploitation, and further aggression and warfare. It will be up to delegates to discuss the best ways to address these topics.
Jane is a second year biology major in the college of arts and sciences. She did Model UN in high school, and hopes to replicate her awesome experience for all of the students coming out for VAMUN this year! In her free time, Jane plays flute and piccolo for the Cavalier Marching Band and is a drill instructor. She also enjoys enjoys watching the Office and Spongebob!
